3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

All of the FEEDBACK we have recieved over the length of the project......

Video Rough cut feedback

Nick......After finishing our second rough cut, we showed Nick and he gave us feedback. The feedback he gave us was that he doesn't think that the parts of the music video that are shot in the car work very well and that the footage from the junction is a lot better. He said we should consider, in the re-edit, to erase the footage from the car, and just have the whole music video as the junction footage.

Junction.......At the Junction this week everyone in the class had to show our rough cut that we have so far to the test of the class and to two guys that work for the Junction. Pete and Rob from the Junction, after watching the videos, gave each of us feedback on what they; like, dislike and feel we could do to improve our music videos.
The feedback they gave me and Philippa on our music video was;
They both don't feel like the lyrics to the songs really fit with the song, the lyrics are about dying for someone and crying for someone, but the video is 'Too Nice'. Pete and Rob think that we should have added something a bit darker into the video, like of her coffin or something like that, which would relate to the lyrics of 'I'd die for you.'
Also they were in agreement with Nick about the footage in the car, they don't think we should include it either.

Response to feedback

During the making of the video we took these comment about our rough cuts into consideration, and tried to change all the things that we got feedback about. The main thing being the fact that both pieces of feedback we got, from Nick and Pete + Rob at the junction, about the car footage not working well with the footage from the junction and at we should consider making the whole video a performance video using only the footage from the junction. Due to the feedback we received we did change our final video into a performance based video, and I personal think that it works quite well and I am very please with the feedback and advise we received.

Digi-pack and Advert Idea feedback

Nick........Me and Philippa told Nick our idea for our advert, having a live performance picture, and he told us that we should consider changing the idea, he told us that the idea for our digi-pack, the diary idea, would be good for the advert as well, so we re-consider the whole idea and decided that instead of using a picture from the live performance music video as the main image for our poster, we would use the exact image that we are using for the inside of our digi-pack, for our advert.

Response to feedback
This advice was very useful to the making of our Advert, because of the feedback from Nick saying that we should consider using the same image from our digi-pack for the advert, this helped us because I think that with having it as the same image, looks a lot better than what I think our first idea would have looked, and also it looks like it is advertising the digi-pack more, because with having the same image it connects the two together, rather than just having the advert a random image of Becky.

Final Video feedback

My dad works for a company called Godfrey Entertainment that makes TV shows and music videos and other media products. Once me and Philippa had finished our final video I emailed the link to my dad and asked him if we could get someone he works with the watch it and email me some feedback.

The email I sent to my dad...

The chief editor of Godfrey Entertainment,Todd, emailed me this feedback.....

“Hi Alie,

Nice job on the music video. Your Dad said you were interested in
feed back... There isn't a right way or a wrong way as I'm sure
you've learned in
your classes as art is subjective.

Were you limited to shooting in studio? Not allowed to mix in random
shots of your artist perhaps walking down a street?

I think you have to consider the type of song and that dictates the
style of the video. You did that. Your cut matched the pace of the
song. Creatively, you could have taken some of your shooting a
little further, for example, shooting close ups of a shoe or even a
shoe lace on the stool, ecu of the frets of the guitar, her eyes,
etc. I think more of that would have been interesting. Textures
(from filters during your edit) could have been also used to add some
depth. Grainy black and white. Perhaps an over exposed or blown
out look(hot). Maybe more rack focusing.

These aren't new ideas. There really aren't too many ways to
innovate as everything has been done and done again. It depends on
whether you're limited by budget, turn around time,
location, or class assignment.

It would be difficult to create for your many different angles, but I
really liked the shadows on her face as the video was fading to
black, about 4:03, where she was more back lit.

Keep up the good work!

Todd”

Response to Todd’s feedback

This feedback is very useful and would have helped a lot if I had asked him to give me feedback before the final video was finished. It gives a lot of information that would have been helpful, but he liked the music video, and that is very good to know because it shows that we have done some things that a professional editor finds good. I am very glad that Todd feels that the video is cut well to the song and that it fits the style of the song and video. The things that he has mentioned about what we could have edited we all things that we had either tried and it didn’t work or have consider and decided not to do; we tried to have other footage but other feedback told us not to have it in the final video. The textures and filters idea may have been a good idea, it could have been something we could have added with more time to edit. I am very happy with this feedback.

Online feedback

I posted the link to the final music video onto social networking sights to see if I could get any feedback from people online.
The FACEBOOK link I posted.......
The tweet on TWITTER I did..........
I posted it on Facebook and Twitter, did not get any feedback from people on Twitter and the only feedback on facebook that I recieve was......

Final Digi-pack and advert feedback

For the digi-pack and advert, instead of using social networking sites for feedback (because i didn’t really receive any), I decided to show people in the class the image of the digi-pack and advert and ask them to write me some feedback;

Tim.......’I like it because it’s a mess, the design is all over the place and interesting. There may be to much use of bright colours, but other than that there isn’t really anything I don’t like about it.’

Dave...’ I think that the concept is a good idea, but you need to think of the content a little more, make sure that there is details on everything that is included in the digipack. But it is a good start and also has a good solid ground on which you start’

........I have learned a lot from all of the feedback we have recieved over the process of making our music video, digi-pack and advert, I have learned that people can also have different opinions of what is good and bad, but all of the feedback is useful, as it has given us new ideas and helped us improve other ideas. Also the feedback that we reievced after doing to project has also helped a lot in seeing the other opions that we could have choosen to do, and things that we could have improved upon, and if either me or Philippa make a music video again in the future the feedback will have definatly given us a better idea of what a music video should be like and will have given us a lot ideas, that if not used in another music, may be useful for future projects.
